The High School Experience at Loudoun School for Advanced Studies

Being a high school student at Loudoun School for Advanced Studies is a unique and fulfilling experience. We strive to create an environment where students dive into their intellectual interests, give and receive support from their peers, and graduate with a fuller understanding of the world and how they want to contribute to it.
Real conversations.
Throughout human history across the globe, people have explored ideas through mutual communication with other people interested in the topic at hand. At LSAS, we encourage students to make learning a social experience with their peers and teachers by expressing their thoughts, listening to others, and engaging in a productive and social learning experience.
Real-world experiences.
The world is too big and fascinating to limit the education experience to classrooms. From going to see local performances and guest speakers to overnight field trips and a Spring study abroad program, we get students out into the world.
Really unique classes.
From seminar-length classes on the films of Christopher Nolan or Wong Kar Wai to explorations of Robot Ethics and Logical Fallacies, our LSAS Signature courses cover exciting topics that other schools don’t. Our Signature courses are built around college-level questions and inquiry about current, often controversial, interdisciplinary subjects and are available to all LSAS high school students.
The LSAS High School Milestones
Our high school program has several milestones that students achieve.
Academic Foundation
In 9th and 10th grade, you’ll work in advanced courses designed to build a solid foundation in primary academic subjects
Signature Electives
Throughout high school, you’ll have the opportunity to enroll in LSAS Signature courses, which are seminar courses about current, complex subjects that are modeled on the best undergraduate and graduate level seminars.
Junior Deep Dive
Too many students enter college without having investigated majors and future paths. But with our Junior Deep Dive, you’ll have the opportunity to research and explore subjects that you are thinking about pursuing in college. The Deep Dive gives you a chance to gain knowledge in your subject of choice, connect with outside influencers and experts, and create a powerful final product that showcases your progress. With this knowledge and experience, you’ll be ready for your senior internship and have a better understanding of what to pursue in college.
Senior Internship
We help our senior-level students obtain internships in fields they want to explore further. Some students choose internships related to the subject they did their deep dive in, while others choose a different direction. The choice is yours and we will help you obtain an internship that is meaningful to you.
